The Brewery - Trade Winds
ABV : 8.10% Style : Tripel
This beer pours a Light golden color with just a bit of haze. There's a near two-finger width head That is pure white and made of teeny tiny bubbles. It does give off a sticky lacing that slowly diminishs away to reveal a mostly barren surface with a razor thin ring around the edge of the glass.
The nose is Sweet, tart. Malt, red and green apple, hints of unripened banana, clove and basil. The aroma is dominated by citrus hops, with basil being prominent. Light notes of lemongrass. There is some gram crackers in the back note. I do not detect any of the yeast notes I'd expect from a tripel.
The flavors are of Green apple tartness with light meyer lemon sweetness. A plantain dryness along with some mild white pepper spice and basil herb character. The flavors are also dominated by toasted Coriander and Thai basil along with a low lemon tartness. There is little malt to give it background and no hops or yeast characteristics to compete with the spices. There is not one note of rice taste in any way.
Finish is very tart with quite a strong burnt note of sugar in the aftertaste.
This has a mouthfeel of a Medium-body with moderate carbonation, then lightens to a crisp, semi-dry finish. Carbonation is low and does not make a major impression on the mouthfeel. Moderate hops bitterness and low alcohol presence.
