Las Brisas is located on the beautiful Laguna Beach coastline and is considered a Southern California landmark. It was Built in 1938 as the Victor Hugo Inn and renamed Las Brisas in 1979.
I have visited this establishment numerous times and always go back not for the atmosphere and view but for the fresh food and attention to detail.
The lunch services is my favorite and with no explanation I always get the Seafood Salad,
Brunch
Their brunch is also quite a nice escape from the ordinary. It is a sit-down menu with about 12 selections ranging from a seafood omelet all the way to lamb or seafood crapes. You do start with sessional fresh fruit and your choice of salad or chef's soup.
On this occasion I opted for the soup, Chicken Tortilla, the broth was slightly fishy and thin. The chicken itself is very tender all-white meats and shredded. It was heavy on the potato and squash. The tortilla chips on top or very soggy in a slight hint of cojita cheese are not even noticeable.
My main was crab stuffed Oregon Trout,
They give you two filets that are wrapped around lump crab, that has been mixed with bell peppers and onions then it is all topped with a shiitake mushroom-lime butter sauce.
The Trout was overlooked and slightly dry but the crab stuffing was very moist and delicate with a very rich creamy texture. The bell peppers and onions very unnoticeable and were only there almost for flavoring than anything else. The sauce to me was way too much and had no real taste of the mushroom or lime although the mushrooms were all on the sides of the fish fillet's it would've been nice to see them on the top instead of edible flowers that brought nice color to the dish but nothing else.
