Poi Dog Deli - Kilauea- Kona

Poi Dog Deli - Kilauea- Kona

This new establishment is located across from Walmart and next to Starbucks in Kaialua - Kona opens in April but had their official grand opening in June.

Poi Dog is as they owner said “the only sandwich shop in Kona that’s not a major company.” The feature a wide selection of beers from the islands along with other locations.

They do feature a good selection of vegetarian dishes also.

One unique way they have set them self apart is instead of chips with a sandwich they serve popcorn. They do have a little bar area that has a wide spectrum of toppings that include cheese, cinnamon Sugar but also some unique flavors like Furiake ( Japanese topping with seaweed and sesame seeds) , and Li Hing Mui ( Dried Plum).

The rubbin is loaded with meet and sauerkraut. The mustard is a whol grain and tastes that it is infused with beer also.

The sauerkraut does make this sweet instead of savory and yes I am ok with that.

The meat is sliced thin and very tender with little to no fat and no gristle.

The cheeses is nothing special but does hold everything together well.

The mustard is very grainy but not really having and kick to normal grain mustards.
